Fugue
Digital video with sound, 2010
Dissociate fugue is a condition in which an individual completely looses there sort or long terms memory, as a result he/she may wanders away from his home or place of work for periods of hours, days, or even weeks, searching for who they are and where do they belong. The artist compares human memory and the condition of dissociates fugue with the psychology of the hunt, in which the hunter peruses their prey to the point of obscuring themselves. Inspired by Apichatpong Weerasethakul 2004 film "Tropical Malady, which tells the legend of a tiger whose soul, severed from its body, haunts the jungle. In the film, a lost soldier is taunted of the spirit of a tiger, alone in the woods, the search for the elusive sprit causes the protagonist to become further lost and isolated himself.
Using the films as a metaphorical departure, the artist re-creates a haunted landscape where the viewer is positioned as the hunter being taunted by the indefinable game.
