Sound: text composed & narrated by Kevin Barry Developed collaboratively with fiction writer Kevin Barry, the work tells a story of a man suffering from rare illness called Cothards Delusion, whereby one holds the persistent belief that he/she is dead, decayed or immortal. Writer Samuel Beckett, researched experiences of Cothard’s delusion for short fiction works such as his story “The Calmative.” Manifold draws upon both the delusion and Beckett’ story to question human relationship with mortality. Through collecting accounts of people’s experiences of Cothards delusion, the artist worked collaboratively with fiction writer Kevin Barry to produce journey through decayed landscapes of New Jersey USA.
