Waking reveries
Digital motion graphics animation, 2011
The work developed from a series of photographic portraits of the natural history collection at Musee La Specola, in Florence, Italy. The artist documented specimens from different areas of the Zoological exhibitions, including specimens held within the museums storerooms. From the series of portraits the artist developed a series of animated motion graphic video files, in which the dead creatures are subtly animated back to occupy an uncanny existence between life and death. The works contemplates a state of “the in between,” as a fulcrum onto which rests man’s ultimate neurosis regarding mortality, non-existence, consciousness after death.
